New research adds to the notion that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day.

A new study has found that eating in the morning can reduce your risk of developing diabetes and heart disease, the Daily Mail reported.

This is because consuming food at this time can trigger the body's fat cells to consume sugar instead of storing it. This procedure can help control the hormone insulin and block it from producing excess fat that could lead to these health issues.

Breakfast has also been found to decrease obesity risk and provide the body with energy that can last through the day.

Not consuming food in the morning increases the risk of atherosclerosis and cholesterol which can cause heart disease.

Researchers in Bath and Nottingham, England analysed a group of 49 participants (29 lean, 20 obese) for six weeks. Some were asked to eat breakfast everyday, while others were told to wait till mid-day to consume food.

Before and after the experiment, the team "measured metabolism, body composition, appetite responses and markers of metabolic and cardiovascular health", the report stated.

The results revealed having a good breakfast increased the fat cells ability to take up sugar in response to insulin.

"By better understanding how fat responds to what and when we eat, we can more precisely target those mechanisms," lead author of the study Doctor Javier Gonzalez, an assistant professor in Human Physiology at Bath University, told the Daily Mail. Adding, "We may be able to uncover new ways to prevent the negative consequences of having a large amount of body fat, even if we cannot get rid of it."

The study was originally published in the Journal of Physiology.

What the researchers say?

Researchers from Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Hebrew University in Israel found the effect of breakfast on the expression of "clock genes" that regulate the post-meal glucose and insulin responses of both healthy individuals and diabetics.

"Our study shows that breakfast consumption triggers the proper cyclic clock gene expression leading to improved glycaemic control," said Daniela Jakubowicz of TAU.

"The circadian clock gene not only regulates the circadian changes of glucose metabolism, but also regulates our body weight, blood pressure, endothelial function and atherosclerosis," said Jakubowicz.

"Proper meal timing, such as consuming breakfast before 9:30 am could lead to an improvement of the entire metabolism of the body, facilitate weight loss, and delay complications associated with type 2 diabetes and other age- related disorders," she said.

About the study:

For the study, 18 healthy volunteers and 18 obese volunteers with diabetes took part in a test day featuring breakfast and lunch, and in a test day featuring only lunch.

On both days, the researchers conducted blood tests on the participants to measure their postprandial clock gene expression, plasma glucose, insulin and intact glucagon-like peptide-1 (iGLP-1) and dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) plasma activity.

"Our study showed that breakfast consumption triggers the proper cyclic clock gene expression leading to improved glycaemic control," said Jakubowicz.

"In both healthy individuals and in diabetics, breakfast consumption acutely improved the expression of specific clock genes linked to more efficient weight loss, and was associated with improved glucose and insulin levels after lunch," she said.

In contrast, in test days featuring only lunch, when participants skipped breakfast, the clock genes related to weight loss were down regulated, leading to blood sugar spikes and poor insulin responses for the rest of the day, suggesting that skipping breakfast leads to weight gain even without the incidence of overeating the rest of the day.

The APC candidate whose campaign name was SAB , was reportedly putting finishing touch towards today’s election when the unexpected occurred.

The accident involved a LAWMA truck, a four-feet container and late Balogun’s Special Utility Vehicle jeep.

Some party members and his loyalists who were unaware of his demise, expressed shock when they were greeted with news of his demise on arrival at the polling units.
Some of them visited the deceased home to ascertain the authenticity of the news.
APC party members in the area were also at loss on what to do next.

One of them who gave his name simply as Lawal, said ” this is a big blow to us because he was the major contender. Why did death have to wait until this crucial moment to claim his life? If death could be appeased, one would have appealed to it to wait until after today’s election. Only God knows what actually transpired.

“When news of his death reached us, we held a meeting on the next step to take. But there is little or nothing we can do at the moment because it is already election day”.

His corpse has been deposited in the morgue.

Two Surgeon collapsed after 32 hours of intensive brain surgery

Chinese social media is celebrating a group of doctors in Fuzhou, Fujian Province that were photographed exhausted on the operating room floor after finishing a 32-hour brain procedure.

The viral photos show the spent doctors lying on the floor at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital on Sunday, Global time reports.

The 32-hour operation, which began early on June 21, involved three surgeons, six anesthesiologists and eight nurses conducting six separate surgeries to remove a series of brain tumors from a single patient.

The operation now holds the record for the longest performed at the hospital.

Net users voiced their appreciation for the doctors’ dedication and “using their own lives to save others.”

“They are real doctors who are responsible for lives and fulfill their promises to patients and their families. You are good examples,” posted Sina Weibo user Zhuang Mingxi.

Lower your blood pressure with exercise

Besides the right diet and medications, exercise is one of the best ways to lower your blood pressure. Working out also boosts the effectiveness of blood pressure medication if you’re already being treated for hypertension. You don’t have to be an athlete, either.

Getting started
Start slowly to prevent injuries. Start with five to 15 minutes of exercise you enjoy, such as walking around the block or on a treadmill. You can gradually make your workouts longer and more challenging.

Most of the Millennial and mid-age workers are now obsessed with taking down their sugar level to a very low ebb, without considering its impacts on their alertness and performance at work. As a result, Nutritionists have advised that having a fruit or nut around you to boost your energy during the midday is not a bad habit.

To keep going, your body needs to have 25 grammes of glucose. Anything less than this, your productivity level becomes the victim and any level more than that would also indicate that you won’t able to do much.

Do note that almost anything eats you will surely increase your sugar level.

3. OBESITY KILLS PRODUCTIVITY

One of the main concerns of people with a tendency to get obsess is how it will impact their activeness during their daily activities. Surely, their concern is real as obesity kills productivity.

In a recent survey by an American health body, obesity is identified to have been the major cause of employees’ absenteeism and presenteeism (productivity lost during the day due to health complications).

To put this a simple sentence, engaging in unhealthy eating habits would result in losing over 60 percent of your daily productivity.

4. HUNGER KILLS PRODUCTIVITY

Just as we are avoiding to get obsessed, going hungry is not a good option either.

To sustain your energy level just make sure you eat healthy, as with hunger you are sure to be less productive and find your tasks more irritable.

Do note that Judge gives harsher sentences when they hungry, as well as people,  found work less interesting while thinking about food.

Linking this with other diet habits stated above, you will realise that you need to eat healthy to avoid hunger and obesity. Also, ensure your sugar level is good when you set a limit for the daily caffeine consumption.

Europe’s richest club Manchester United overtakes Real Madrid 

The latest football rich list from KPMG showed that United had topped Real Madrid to occupy the first spot as the richest club in the continent.

Five other English clubs also made it on the top 10 list of richest clubs in Europe including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.

United has failed to win the English Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as its manager in 2013, but the club increased in value to €3.

Although Manchester united owes almost hal a billion pounds in debt, it had a remarkable revenue increase due to a bumper television rights deal.

The English game’s growing financial muscle is highlighted in the second year of KPMG’s report.

The study looked at the finances of 39 clubs based on their popularity on social media channels, revenues for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, and success in European competitions.

The clubs were then ranked by a measure used judge how much it would cost to buy any given club as it includes a business’s total debt.

United has been valued at €3.004 billion (£2.61bn), ahead of both Real (€2.895bn) and Barcelona (€2.688bn).

KPMG had estimated Madrid and United as being worth €2.9bn at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Bayern Munich (€2.367bn) are fourth on the list, with Manchester City (€1.909bn) the next highest-placed English team in fifth. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur complete the top 10.

In May, United announced projected full-year revenues of between £560 million and £570m and expected profits that could eclipse their current record of £191.9m.

They currently have 26 global sponsorship deals, including with kit manufacturer adidas, shirt sponsor Chevrolet, 20th Century Fox and Uber, as well as 10 regional sponsorship deals and 28 other media and financial partners.

Broadcasting rights alone are worth £8.3bn to the 20 Premier League teams.

KPMG studied the publicly available financial information of 39 clubs, as well as their popularity on social media and success in European competitions.

The top 32 teams had a combined value of €29.9bn (£26bn), an increase of more than €3bn on last year. The three top teams – Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona – account for around a third of the total value.

The influx of cash into football’s biggest clubs saw transfer records broken last year with United manager Jose Mourinho paying £89m to bring Paul Pogba back from Juventus after a spell away at the Italian champions.

KPMG’s €3.05bn ($3.4bn) valuation of Manchester United suggests that the stock market is currently underpricing the club which is listed in New York with a market capitalisation of $2.8bn.

Real Madrid fell to second in the rich list, despite a successful season which saw them win the Spanish title for the first time in five years and reach the Champions League final, to be played on Saturday.

The lack of correlation between footballing and financial performance further underlines the increasing importance of broadcasting rights to top clubs.

At the start of the 2016/17 season the Premier League began a new TV rights deal with Sky and BT Sport worth £10.4bn over three years.

“In terms of media rights value, the English Premier League sits comfortably at the top of European leagues, although other major leagues have outlined well-defined strategies to compete for the attention of global fans,” said Andrea Sartori, KPMG’s global head of sports and the report’s author

Further down the list, German champions Bayern Munich kept the fourth place they held last year, while Manchester City overtook Arsenal to take fifth spot.

Leicester City and Everton were the two other English clubs to make the list, in 16th and 17th place respectively.
