Author Preface

Hi,
First of all, Thanks for choosing freedom. You have taken the first step to building your dream lifestyle. The business industry is now focused on the digital lifestyle. Sadly, business industry has no other choice. If you do not have a strong online presence, you are missing some great opportunities.
What does that mean for internet marketers? The internet has created more opportunities than ever before. It is the best way to get rid of the 9-5 job lifestyle. It is the only way to build an exponential income graph. A good business can never survive on a linear income graph. You have to multiply your income by 2^n formula, and this is where the 80/20 formula comes into play. Ultimately, 20% of your efforts will produce 80% of the income. This book is all about learning that 20% knowledge that separates successful internet marketers from the crowd.
There are endless ways to earn money from the internet. Many new opportunities are born every day. Also, many methods and algorithms become outdated every day. Growth possibilities are out there, but the competition is also very stiff.
To succeed in the digital era, you must learn, “how to learn and forget past lessons?”. There was a time when building a single website page took days before launch. Now, you can do it yourself in a matter of minutes. World Wide Web has introduced you to the global talent pool. You can outsource business operations at a fraction of the original cost.
You can launch your business today, hire some employees and in a few days, you’ll be earning the profit. There are many successful business models who replicated this method.
Coming back to the income methods, this book will mostly focus on “affiliate marketing”. Yes, you can earn money from Adsense. You can sell advertisement space, build your info-products, sell products on Ebay and create services, but affiliate marketing is the ultimate destination. Affiliate marketing will create 80% of the business revenue from 20% of your time, money, and effort.

Chapter 1: Introduction to Affiliate Marketing

When I began my journey in the digital era, I was going back and forth. I now realize the importance of a solid business plan. I was trying to do it all myself. One day I was trying to optimize my WP blog. Next day, I was writing an article and for the remaining three days, I was posting comments on blogs to get some traffic. I realized that I am following a wrong method. I am just working 9-5 in the online world. Nothing is changed.
That is #1 problem with internet marketing. You can think you are working while producing no money. I want to clarify somethings at the beginning of this book.

3 Business Mistakes You Should Avoid

1. A website is not a business unless it earns money. It is easy to establish a website in 2 hours. It is easier to think it will earn money some day. That someday never comes. You’ll have to go and find customers. Think of it as a real business that will produce real money.
2. Each business requires a financial investment, and affiliate marketing is no exception; Although it requires very little capital compared to offline business models.
3. A business is not a business if you are doing it all yourself. An article cannot teach you everything about internet marketing. It is easy to call yourself an expert, but the business rules will not change for you. Business is all about interactions for the sake of earnings profit. In the start, you can do everything yourself. Eventually, you’ll need help from experts. I’ll discuss the essential components of an internet business in a later chapter.

The DotCom Lifestyle

This book is not about making quick money. It is about earning a stable living from the internet. This book teaches you to live the “Dotcom” lifestyle while making a good income. I do not plan to become the next millionaire. And, I know many of you do not want to be a millionaire. We just want a good lifestyle with the freedom of time and money.
If you are like me, and you want to escape the rat race then, let’s get started. You’ll learn the nitty gritty of Internet marketing. Moreover, you’ll learn to make a solid income from affiliate marketing with minimum capital and time investment. We’ll first focus on niche selection, product launch, marketing, project management, team management, and product life cycles.

Market Research and Niche Selection
The Essential Business Plan
Basic Marketing Tools

Market Research and Niche Selection

Your business is your asset. It is a source of income that’ll provide revenue for the years to come. As you become successful, your brand name will become important. You can then, play relationship marketing techniques. You can sell or buy online business shares. Your little asset will become a brand.
A business can survive without sufficient capital, but you cannot run it without marketing research. You fail at this step, and you have lost the game. Get this step right and you’ll be making profits in the long run.
Affiliate Marketing and Your Personal Brand
Unless you a have a limitless budget, you cannot try to sell to all people who may be interested in the product. We do not have that option. Eventually, we start with minimum funds, limited time, and an idea. We’ll have to find customers, but, we cannot possibly talk to all people to differentiate the potential leads.
Step by step, we’ll educate our customers. We’ll teach them about our products, services, and brand value. We’ll focus on a specific group of people who are interested in our product. This process is called niche selection.
Next, our task is to gather those hot leads. We’ll collect their email addresses to find more about their interests and hobbies. To continue the process, we start delivering value to the customer. We deliver our customized product that matches customer requirements and desires. In return, we make the profit.
So, how do you develop a personal brand as an affiliate marketer? How do you identify your market? How do you select a niche in the digital marketing? The process is outlined in the upcoming paragraphs.
Geographics Vs. Demographics
Geographical information is essential if you’ll sell the product in a certain area. Let’s suppose, you plan to promote a specific musical instrument that can only be sold in Los Angeles. That means you want to target a specific demographics in the Los Angeles.
In other case, your product/service can be a universal requirement. Let’s say, you are selling a college level course for English learning. You can sell this course worldwide to all students who want to improve their English.
In every case, we have to learn all about geographics as well as the demographics. Google Adwords and Keyword Planner are two free tools to gather information in these two areas.
Every keyword research tool will highlight information about demographics, geographics, internet bandwidth, annual earnings, hobbies, and interests. Marketers use this information to specify their advertisements and marketing campaigns. That brings us to a very important concept of internet marketing. It is the “Keyword research”.
I’ll assume that you know the meaning of Keyword research. Let’s talk about long-tail keywords, niche selection, and keyword research tools.
Keyword Research Tools
It is surprising to see how many websites are established without giving any thought to the SEO factor. You cannot earn a single buck if your website does not show up in the search results. To get rankings in search engine results, you need keywords. Depending on your niche, keyword selection can be a difficult task. There are many premium and free keyword tools. Some of them are the Long-tail pro, SEOcockpit, Semrush, SEObook, Google Adwords (Keyword Planner), SEOMoz, and Wordtracker.
The Adwords keyword planner is the most popular one in this series. SEOMoz does not let you research keywords. You can check competitors keywords, current keywords on your website, incoming links, and other important factors. Wordtracker offers a free trial, but the value lies in their premium membership.
Writing Keywords
You’ll need to compile a list of keywords before you jump to the Adwords. Simply brainstorm the keywords and write them in an excel sheet. There are three types of Keywords:
  • Commercial Keywords
  • Product Keywords
  • Informational Keywords
CPC (Cost Per Click) determines the market value of a keyword. You can check the CPA in any keyword research tool or planner.
Commercial Keywords
In this category, commercial keywords are the most expensive ones. These keywords deal with direct sales marketing. Potential customers search for these keywords when they are ready to purchase your product. Some examples can be “Buy”, “Discount”, “Shipping” and “Coupon” etc. You’ll notice that commercial keywords receive bids between 3$-30$.
It is extremely hard to rank for these keywords because of stiff competition.
Product Keywords
Product keywords have a lower CPC than commercial keywords. You’ll find that product keywords have a CPC between 1$-15$. These keywords can be merged into the content of your website. Examples of these keywords are “specific brand name”, “ Top 10…”, “Review of specific product”, “affordable”, and “cheap”.
These keywords also receive tough competition, but it depends on your specific niche.
Informational Keywords
Customers are looking for information. They are asking questions. You need to give answers to build a business brand. Common information keywords are:
  • “How to start a ….?”
  • “Best ways to do….”
  • “Best ways to get rid of…”
  • “Simple ways to….”
As, you can see these keywords clearly ask for information. More than 67% people use the internet to search for information. You’ll find a huge list of keywords asking for information. These keywords let you see the potential market. Commercially, these keywords do not produce much revenue. A single click will result in 0.01$-1$ on average. Some keywords may yield more profit.
Despite the reduced commercial value, these keywords are more profitable than other two categories. These keywords help you build a solid brand that gives the option to sell more products.
You need to introduce your new business to the market. You need to develop an authority website. Every single article, Ebook, blog post or content form will contribute to your online reputation. Informational keywords will create the basis of your online platform. To be successful, you need to use these products.
A successful business venture will use a combination of informational keywords, commercial keywords, and product keywords. You can decide to have 60% informational keywords, 20% product keywords, and 20% commercial keywords. Now, it depends on your business nature. If you are developing a directory, you may only need commercial keywords. If you are building a blog, you’ll more likely focus on the informational keywords.
