The more you read about periods, the more you come across various myths that leave us all wondering. Just because you’re having your period, it doesn’t mean that your life has to stop. It’s time to debunk some of these myths once and for all.
- "You shouldn’t exercise during your period":
Since exercise releases endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller, it can actually reduce period cramps and pains. Therefore you can easily carry on with your workout girls!
- "You can’t get pregnant during your period":
Let’s get one thing straight: Unless you are using contraception, such as the Pill or a condom, there are no safe days. That being said, and although it is highly unlikely, you can indeed get pregnant during your period since sperm can survive inside a woman’s vagina for up to 5 days. Verdict: never have unprotected sex during your period unless you’re actually trying to conceive.
- "If you don't get your period you’re definitely pregnant":
We all know that period cycles differ from one woman to the other. Therefore, there are many factors that can delay your period such as stress, illness, drastic weight change and more. That being said, if you’ve had unprotected sex and your period is late, it’s always better to get a test to avoid any surprises.
- "Bathing can affect your period":
Many claim that water temperatures can affect your period and some even advise not to shower during your cycle to avoid slowing down your period or even stopping it. There is no medical evidence to support this idea whatsoever. On the contrary, keep in mind that hygiene is very important during your period. So continue to bathe normally in order to avoid rashes and bad odors.
