History
has been made in the nation in aspect of power generation as the Transmission
Company of Nigeria (TCN) recently announced an increase in megawatts of
electricity generated.
On
Wednesday, February 3, the TCN disclosed that the nation has generated about 5,
074 megawatts as well as the highest maximum daily energy of 109, 372 megawatts
hour which have been duly distributed to electricity distribution companies in
Nigeria.
Confirming
the development, the deputy general manager on public affairs of the TCN,
Clement Ezeolisah, said the new achievement is pleasing as the previous peak
generation was 4883.9 megawatts of electricity.
According
to Daily Post, Mr. Ezeolisah, said the new peak generation was attained on
Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 9.30pm.
An
excerpt of the statement from the TCN reads: “The new peak generation of
5,074.7MW was attained at 9.30p.m. on February 2, 2016. While the previous peak
generation was 4883.9MW achieved on November 23, 2015, the previous highest
maximum daily energy wheeled nationwide was 107,142.32MWH recorded on January
26, 2016.”
According
to the statement, Mr. Dipak Sarma, the managing director of system operation
and market operation of the TCN, credited the stakeholders within the power
industry for the feat.
Mr.
Sarma added that the twin feats of 5, 074 megawatts and 109, 372 megawatts hour
were as a result of enhanced cooperation among the stakeholders, as well as
through efforts by system operators at the National Control Centre, Osogbo, who
in conjunction with other stations helped enhance the process of generating power
to the distribution companies, ensuring there is no stranded power.
Mr.
Sarma, in a phone conversation with This Day, further confirmed the development
saying the 5, 074 megawatts are being transmitted to the 11 electricity
distribution companies.
He
added that the TCN would not have achieved the feats if distribution companies
circumvented the process of load allocation.
