Corpses, skull exhumed from building foundation in Enugu Nigeria(photos)

– There is fear in Ugwuaji community after three decomposing corpses and a human skull were discovered in an ongoing building foundation.

– The police directed youths of the community to exhume the corpses from the building on Monday evening.

– Enugu state police command has commenced investigations into the discovery of three decomposing corpses, and also a human skull in Ugwuaji area of the state.

There is anxiety in Ugwuaji community of Enugu state following the discovery of three decomposing corpses and a human skull in the foundation of a building under construction.

The Punch reports that the corpses were exhumed from the building on Monday evening by some youths following a directive by the police.

As at the time of this report, it is still unclear who the building belongs to, but unconfirmed reports claim that the structure is a church building; while some claim the building belonged to a businessman.

The corpses were buried in the foundation of the building and covered with concrete and blocks. It was gathered that the construction of the building recently started as it was still at the foundation level.

The corpses were exhumed after one of the workers at the site was alleged to have knowledge of the internment of the dead bodies in the foundation before officials of the state’s police command were invited to the scene.

A source within the police the alleged worker, who blew the whistle about the development, disclosed that the bodies were buried at the foundation before concrete and blocks were laid. He said the force mobilised some youths and directed them to break the foundation.

The source said the discovered corpses have not been identified as well as the identity of the building owner.

Responding to the incident, spokesperson of the state police command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, on Tuesday, January 26, said investigations into the matter had commenced.

Amaraizu, expressed optimism that the owner of the building would be unravel very soon, adding that the identity of the corpses, and the killers would also be unraveled.

“The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations into the discovery of three decomposing corpses, and also a skull, by its operatives on January 25, 2016 at a bush by Ugwuaji, in Enugu, along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway with a view to establishing the identity of the corpses, where they were allegedly killed, and the possible suspects, amongst others,” Amaraizu said.
